On June 27th, AIClub held our 2021 Student Research Symposium, where K-12 students, parents, teachers, and industry computer scientists gathered to see students from grades 6-10 present research innovations using AI.

Keynote by Dr. Bharath Ramsundar, an internationally renowned expert in AI for Medicine.

Two professional teacher development sessions K-12
Bharath Ramsundar, PhD is the founder and CEO of Deep Forest Sciences, a start-up working to accelerate the use of AI in deep tech. Dr. Ramsundar is also the lead maintainer of the DeepChem project, an open source consortium working to build software for open source medicine discovery. Bharath previously co-founded Computable, a venture-backed start-up building better tools for collaborative dataset management. Dr. Ramsundar has a Computer Science Ph.D. from Stanford University. His research and professional interests include the application of deep learning in drug discovery. Bharath is the lead author of “TensorFlow for Deep Learning :From Linear Regression to Reinforcement Learning”, a developer’s introduction to modern machine learning, with O’Reilly Media, and the lead author of “Deep Learning for the Life Sciences”.

Teacher Professional Development
The professional development sessions covered:
How AI can be taught in K-12
Topics and curriculums for different grade levels (grades 4-12)
Alignment with math curriculum
Role of coding and computer science
Practice exercises for hands-on teacher learning
Both sessions had the same content and were offered at different time slots to accommodate international attendees. Each teacher who completed one of the training sessions received a Professional Development Certificate from AIClub
